GearPro..... is no "pro" out in the field but could be improved upon.
I really-REALLY wanted to like this camera (and in some ways I do) but......Out of the box, the camera battery was fully charged and I was abel to start tinkering with it within minutes of unpacking it. I pulled the remote control out of a clear bag, removed a slit of paper so the battery would make contact and "walla" the remote was turning on and off the camera. The camera told me to install a memory card and I did, and as sat in my kitchen playing with everything, all was fine and dandy and the remote made the camera record video as I tinkered with it prior to placing the camera inside the clear plastic housing. Here is what I like...**** My San Disk Ultra mini-card is easy to insert and easy to eject in the GearPro unlike some other small cameras I have. One thing though, there seems to be excessive slop when the card is being inserted (unlike my other stuff that uses mini card) and I suspect the tolerances of the GearPro are not anywhere as close as my my other cameras that use with mini SD cards... Some of my other stuff is difficult to eject the mini-card, but the GearPro is easy.**** I actually like the clear plastic housing on my GearPro better than my GoPro Hero2. The latching mechanism is easier to lock and close than the GoPro.**** No real "learning curve" on the GearPro like the GoPro.The GearPro is pretty much a no-brainer and I didn't even look at the manual to start making recordings.**** The remote that came with the GearPro worked well for me when the camera is not in the clear plastic housing. Once I placed it inside the clear housing the day following me experimentations in my kitchen, the remote was not able to make the camera do anything, even when placed inches away from the camera. I'm not certain if the battery in the remote died or if the remote died, but as I read other reviews here on Amazon, it seems to suggest the remote isn't very reliable and probably just cratered on me.**** I really like the LCD screen on the back that shows what your framing and composition look like as what the lens is seeing. A screen on a GoPro is an optional purchase. What I don't like**** The San DIsk seems to freeze footage and locks momentarily when video is played back. The card I installed is supposed to be fully compatible with the camera, but with this flaw of having unwanted "freeze frames" I'll not be using this camera for anything more than a dash cam. It is worthless for me if I want to make a video that doesn't lock up every 5 or six seconds.**** The camera is a shiny black material and the gloss surfaces reveals inconsistencies in the plastic housing. This leads me to believe the build-quality is no where even close to my GoPro Hero 2 camera.**** The GearPro camera is a tad larger than my GoPro and I much better like the smaller size of the GoPro. I believe the GoPro is a more durable camera and makes me think the GearPro is nearly disposable and isn't going to last very long, and in fact, the flap that covers the SD slot pops open and will not stay shut.**** The rubber flaps that cover the the slot where the mini-card is inserted and on the other side where the USB cord is plugged in, look like they might not stand up more than a month or so. Plan on these covers being torn, damaged or simply falling off much sooner than you might think and you'll probably be forced to put Scotch tape on the slots when the rubber flaps break.Bottom line, the video quality isn't bad and if it were not for the fact that the video shows freezing about every 6 seconds (sometimes every two second) this could be a good camera for shooting in high-risk situations where you might not like to place your more expensive camera.

Not for me...
Received this "1080P" action camera timely. It was packaged nicely and I definitely got my hopes up... Then I turned it on and started playing with it. At that point I realized that I had made a mistake. This camera is definitely not 1080P!! Video quality was very poor, even on the highest quality setting. I tried to set up a couple of videos and I started getting an error message, however I am using a class 10 SD card per the instructions. I also was not impressed with battery life. I would not recommend this camera, not even as a backup camera. I have heard good things about the SJ4000 cameras, though I will probably bite the bullet and buy a GoPro at this point. The UPSIDE is that Amazon was awesome for refunds! You click that you want to refund the item, answer one question and they send you all the information to print. Print it out, cut a few pieces out and tape the prepaid shipping label to a box and drop them off!! The next day the money was refunded to me. Very easy and painless.

Ok for everyday recording
The touch screen doesn't work very well so I use the computer to delete files. Also, the remote will turn the camera off but not on. It is OK for the price.

I am happy with this purchase
I am happy with this purchase. The camera takes a high video quality video. It handles high speed well. My only complaint is the record volume is low and can not be changed. So it depends on what you are planning to do with it. For me I bought it to record my motorcycle rides. Sound levels are no important. I have read the negative reviews that have been posted. While it is possible they received a faulty device, I think it is far more likely they didn't follow the instructions. The Micro SD card that is needed for this camera clearly stated that it needs to be a class 10 card. This is intended for HD recordings. Use of a slower card will impact video quality. If you are hoping to create recordings that require sound, you should keep looking. It comes with a number of different mounts and a waterproof case. It surprised me that it has a touch screen with a zoom. All in all it is a good value.

So, I foolishly took a chance on this camera, ignoring the negative reviews and focusing on the positive ones. In my defense, I did not plan on using it for rugged sports like mountain biking or snowboard but simply for recording heavy bag sessions, kata, and other exercises to check my form for martial arts. Nothing for which I would need a GoPro or similar high-end camera (or so I thought). Basically, I intended to set it on a shelf and hit record. Well, apparently even that level of wear and tear was too much. Out of the box it feels incredibly cheap and fragile, which should have been a warning, but I did record a few practice videos successfully so figured it would serve my purpose. Then, when I went to record an intense workout session just a few day after receiving it it completely seized up--with the screen reading "Data error"--for no apparent reason. It was completely frozen: I couldn't power it off, couldn't eject the memory card, couldn't do anything--and I'm fairly tech savvy. Do yourself a favor and buy something better--even a point and click digital camera with a video option. That's what I did and am much happier.

Action camera
A great camera for the money, a little larger than a go pro .The only problem I found was when in its case it's very heavy and almost no sound is recorded apart from the noise of the camera rattling in its case.I'm going to try some thin felt to try and stop this .Although it comes with a few mounts a curved helmet mount would be good ,as none of the others can mount on a curved helmet .The picture is good, I used it on my mountain bike and the picture was quite stable on a very rough track .Skiing was good also but filming was more difficult with no helmet mount had to use a belt mount on my rucsac strap so got a bit more wobble.
