Terrific Gregory Peck thriller.
A really cool psychiatric thriller that has Peck in the lead role of Stillwell, an individual estranged from society for some unknown reason, and who has to go about discovering what he and the world are all about.Wow, I first saw this way back as a boy one summer afternoon, and the film really drew me in because it has a real compelling weirdness to it in its open scenes. And things only snowball from there. The film really moves well in spite of not having a lot of action, and the dialogue is darn good. In short, it's another darn good story that blends the old 1930s niore genre with some then slightly more contemporary 1960's thriller offerings. There's even an off handed comment to a popular character in another series of movies within this film. It's really a good movie, and doesn't get all high falutin nor overly simple, nor even glossy like a lot of today's offerings. The thing about this film is that "it all works out", and has some pretty interesting suggestions to mankind as a whole in terms of his future, and who we are as human beings. It's that good of a movie.Highly recommended. And seeing this film some forty some odd years later, I still think it's a good watch. Again, they just don't make 'em like this anymore.Give it a shot. Enjoy.

Superb Hitchcockian Suspense, directed by Edward Dmytryk
This was one of the finest films by maverick, and at times black-balled, director Edward Dmytryk. Star Gregory Peck had earlier appeared in Hitchcock's "Spellbound" and "The Paradine Case", but this film was 20 years on, in 1966, yet still filmed in black and white. Here for some reason the lack of colour works beautifully: usually I find myself critical of this when unnecessary... And there are precious few films that can stand up to the master's best, or even exceed it, and "Mirage" is certainly one. A wonderful film that keeps you guessing until the conclusion, with all players being excellent. Interestingly, it features George Kennedy in a supporting role, with music by Quincy Jones. A no miss for lovers of suspense drama and Hitchcock.

One of the more classic movies of all time.
Picture quality is great. Way back in the DVD days I requested Turner to find this movie and get it to DVD. It finally showed up in a Gregory Peck movie combo package along with a couple of other great Peck movies. Now the movie world has caught up to the greatness of this flick and brought it to blu-ray. Movie made in the sixties but still carries well into 2019's. If you are a old movie buff as I, this is a must have.

Who am I, and why are they after me? - 4.5 stars
I've always been a sucker for movies with amnesiac heroes, and there were a fair number of them in the early 1960s. If not at the very top of the list, MIRAGE is still a much better than average entry in this genre, and a thoroughly enjoyable story from beginning to end. And while Gregory Peck had already had some experience with amnesia in the classic SPELLBOUND, he really gets a lot to work with here. The story: David Stillwell takes the darkened stairs down toward a sub-basement in a skyscraper during a power outage in NYC … a sub-basement that isn't there when he begins to realize that he can't remember the last two years of his life. An elderly peace activist is found dead in the street below the skyscraper … but was it suicide, or murder? Stillwell is desperate to discover the truth, especially when he realizes that he's being tailed by some unknown party, for some unknown reason.Yes, there is an explanation for all of this by the end of the film. But getting there is a twisty, suspenseful process, with Stillwell not knowing who is trustworthy, what the stakes are, or how much of anything is real. The opening third of the film almost feels like a Phillip K. Dick story, in fact, with that same sense of reality & sanity fraying away at the edge of one's eye. Perhaps not a major film, but an entertaining & satisfying one all the same—recommended!

A good psychological thriller, with a great case.
Great but little seen movie. I've loved it since I was a kid. The DVD I had was recorded from a showing on Turner Classic Movies. But it was always a little grainy, which bothered me. I was accidentally searching for it on Amazon and lo and behold, it was slated to come out on Blu-Ray right when I was looking for it. Now I have an old favorite in much better quality. Please see this film, it's not what you expect.

Very good thriller
At age 79 I find it difficult to believe how unlikeable I find most modern movies when there are so many older movies such as this one which I like enough to watch over and over again. Mirage does not contain the overt sex and extreme violence, or the loads of special effects, which seem to dominate most modern movies. Instead it has an intriguing plot -- containing many things which turn out not to be not what they initially seem to be -- as well as good acting, especially by Gregory Peck. it's a bit difficult to realize -- given the current paucity of good movies -- that there once was a time when there were so many good movies that one of this caliber has almost been forgotten. Highly recommended.

Too Depressing For Us
We really are fans of Gregory Peck but we had a difficult time staying focused on this movie. It was a frustrating and a depressing storyline. Will probably will just donate it to a thrift store for resale.
