If you are looking for a take away kind of taste, this isn't it.
I have made my own take away style Tarka Dal for 20yrs, it is one of my favourite dishes. This was cheap so I thought I would try it but for me it was incredibly bland with a slight plasticky taste presumably from the packaging.It perhaps would be better heated in a pan with a few things added to it and a dash of water to undo the porridgification but as it is it's a no from me.

Authentic taste
This is a very acceptable lentil dish, probably the best of the KohiNoor pouches, either on its own or a part of a larger meal. I usually prefer to cook my own dals, but when in a hurry this is invaluable, particularly spiced up with a tarka, seved with rice, papads and a sour pickle - delicious!
