Good price on a decent product
Good price on a decent product, albeit probably more diy use when needed than for every day professional use. The roof hook fit my requirement for using my existing aluminum ladders to do some diy painting of dormer roof windows. The hooks are box section aluminum, light but strong. They are easly fitted when needed and removed when not. The u-clamps and bolts supplied as part of the kit make for secure attachment to the ladder.

Saved over £200 for a roofing ladder, works better with some additions
I planned to repair some leaking lead flashing on my chalet bungalow roof, the steep pitch meant that a roofing ladder was definately required, but I couldn't justify buying a roofing ladder for what may be a single repair. This attachable roof hook was cheaper and is designed to be used to modify a spare aluminium ladder for use along with one for getting to the eaves.I noticed this item looked very similar to one sold by Lyte Ladders. It was well reviewed for build quality and stability of it's attachment to a ladder, a few reviewers remarks helped me understand some things to consider and to resolve for safety and usability before dashing up the roof.Clearance-This kit provides the hook and wheels like a roofing ladder, what's not included is a method of providing some standoff between the ladder and the roof tiles/guttering when set in a working position. Without a clearance, the ladder will bear directly against tiles through small points of contact, also, if overhanging the roof edge, it may bear against or damage guttering. A specialised roofing ladder has a number of standoff bars with protective coverings, which, after flipping the ladder over to engage the ridge hook, will spread the weight across a number of tiles, the standoff keeps the ladder a few inches above tiles and guttering.I used a couple of pieces of timber, attached across the ladder in line with rungs at two heights. These provided a standoff and a soft point of contact across several tiles . If doing this, be sure the ladder integrity is not affected. Perhaps consider obtaining 4 more U bolts, fasteners and washers, then counter drill the timber to conceal the fasteners below the roof contact surface. The timber strips also provided somewhere to place tools so they didn't roll down the roof.Extending Ladders-CAREFUL! In normal use, standard ladder height adjustment hooks use downwards force to engage the rungs, the ridge hook is now the fixed point and these forces are reversed, allowing the ladder to extend when weight is applied to the wider base section. A method of fixing the ladder sections together after being set to the required length and before applying any weight should be used. I couldn't find any easily available commercial options and used a multiple redundancy method (I can't advise on how to prevent accidental extending, but maybe another two U bolts etc could be of use in some way, so buy a total of six for extending ladders).Overall, it is a good construction, made with materials suitable for outdoor use. The a manufacturers recommended method of attachment also appears to be sturdy and doesn't require any cutting or drilling of the ladder, excess length on u-bolts can be sawn off once assembled, but leave some spare. I would recommend this for single or occasional users. It lost a star because additional items (standoffs, U bolts etc) and a little work was required to make this a really good accessory.

Easy to use
Great bit of kit and works well. If you own a normal ladder saves buying a new ladder for roof work.

Value for money
Easy to install had to buy these as my stepson borrowed my ladder and someone stole the attachments for the original roof ladder so bought these work well.

Not bad at all
Lightweight, easy to fit. Wheels allow easy rolling into place and hooks over well for a reassuringly stable cat ladder.Bolts to install are secured with nylock nuts and a total of 12 are required. This and the fact that there is thread left over for most ladders as it has to cater for larger runged ladders means that there is a lot of nut tightening to be done to set up and then to remove afterwards. This and the fact that those bolts then protrude upwards towards the climber, which is not ideal, means that it loses half a star if I could, but not at all bad and works well.

Bit of a faff
I don't have room to store roof ladders as well as my regular ladders and don't have constant need for roof ladders so thought these would be a great alternative and they are but, and its quite a big but, they take quite a long time to put together, the bolts are too long so you cannot use a socket set to tighten them up, you have to use a manual spanner. Other than the time it takes to put them together, they serve their purpose well.
