Can this unit handle an air conditioner? I don't like to play around with power sockets or electricity Lol.

This is rated to 1875 Watts. To find out how many Watts your AC needs, look at the label of multiply the Volts times the amps. Most small, window or floor AC's will qualify. However, what else do you want to connect on this multiplug? You will not be able to exceed the rated Watts or in this case 15 AMPS. Theoretically speaking, you can use ALL 12 plugs provided that you do not exceed 15 AMPS (1875 Watts) at the same time. So if you have two 75 watt lamps you will be using 150 Watts that will leave you with 1725 watts left. If you use a small heater at 1500 watts with those lamps will be also fine (1500 watts + 150 watts = 1650 watts). If you plan to use the AC and lets say you add two lamps, a radio, and a fan, it will be fine provided that you do not exceed 1875 Watts while there are all on (look at the labels of do the math. The formula is very simple:
WATT = AMP X VOLT (W= A X V) OR AMPS = WATT DEVIDED BY VOLT (A = W / V)
Let me give you another example, if you plug this in the kitchen, and you want to keep the cords of several appliances plugged in, it will be OK provided that you do not run high demand appliances at the same time. So you can plug your coffee maker, your toaster, your blender your juicer and you will be fine if you only run one item at the time. However, you can run you coffee maker at 1500 Watts and any other item that does not exceed 375 watts (1875 total)

I wish I'd knew the power requirement of your AC, but usually, these days a hair dryer requires more power that an AC unit...

Do you have to screw it into the outlet? Cant you just plug it in like normal

Technically yes but due to the weight of things plugged into it, especially since it's below the level of the plug, it will tend to pull out if you do it that way. I don't recommend doing that; I recommend the screw, it keeps it snug against the outlet.

Question 3

I was going to buy this but little confused. You have to replace your existing faceplate?

I absolutely advise AGAINST removing the faceplate.  You've then exposed the wires and connections.  Remove the center screw (or both if your outlet is that way), leave the faceplate and plug into the outlet as normal.  Then put the longer center screw where the old one was.  That center screw keeps it secured.  Use it.  Otherwise you'll be wiggling it in the outlet every time you plug something in.

Question 4

The grounded and protected lights did not come on in the original and replacement units. i've tried the plugs in multiple locations. any ideas? thanks

The lights are a very faint green.  You may have to darken the area to tell if they're on.  Also, do you know for certain that the base plug is properly grounded?  I've run across instances where someone has used a 3-prong receptacle in an box lacking a ground.  Amazon sells a tester for 5.99 that will diagnose any three-pronge outlet.
