okay but not outstanding
We've used reel mowers at our house for fifteen years. Comparisons as follows:1. first reel mower, I don't remember who manufactured it, worked well for seven or eight years, then broke.2. second reel mower was a Scott, worked well for seven or eight years, then broke.3. third reel mower - this one (American Lawn Mower 1404-16 16 inch) I bought this mower because it cost $20 less than the comparable Scott model (we are on a tight budget, this was $87 and the Scott was over $100) and because online advertisements emphasized that this mower is "made in the US." When the mower arrived, there was a problem assembling it. The manufacturer had included bolts and nuts to put the handle together but the nuts did not match the bolts, so I had to go to the hardware store and by wing nuts before I could put the mower together. Now that it's together, it is working reasonably well. However, it does not appear to be as effective at grass cutting (requires more passes to get an even cut) or as stoutly constructed as the Scott mower. Considering that it cost $20 less, I can't really complain about this. You get what you pay for. However, I think this mower probably has a relatively short life expectancy and next time around, I'll pony up the extra $20 and purchase another Scott.

effort more than I thought
Easy to assemble. I have only used it once but some difficulties are evident. Both wheels need to be engaged in order for the blades to spin. My yard is full of uneven areas and it frequently stopped leaving grass uncut. Many passes later it looked good. Also difficult to get grass along the edges, specifically along the curb, because of that issue.I need to practice working with it. I love getting exercise and it's eco-friendly. I recommend for the dedicated gardener, not the people expecting convenience.

Impressed
Initially, it was tough going as our grass was pretty long. Once the first pass or two was done, it was much easier. I imagine that with regular mowing, it's not going to be difficult. Easy to assemble out of the box and easy to use. We don't have a large yard. I actually prefer this to gas or electric for a couple of reasons. One, I don't like the smell of the gas-powered mowers. Two, this push mower is much quieter meaning I can get all my mowing done early in the morning before everyone gets up. I'm an early bird and prefer to do my 'chores' during that time so I can free up the rest of my date. Unless we ended up with a much larger lawn, I don't see myself going back to the gas mower.

smallyards only
I thought my yard was perfect for this mower but after using it a few times, find that i wish my yard were smaller and flatter. The width of the blades could be wider to reduce the numbrr of passes. It is lighter weight than a gas or electric mower which makes it sdvantages when stairs are involved in transport. Construction feels solid. Blades need sharpened on arrival.

Light weight little mower
I read lots of reviews before purchasing this mower. I am a girl with no tools experience and although any guy would have no problem with assembling this thing I had some problems familiaring myself with the tools, however, this mower does what it says. It mows the lawn and it does it will no issue (I bought the bag for the grass too but I haven't put that together yet, I know lame.) It doesn't really need the bag for the grass cause it leaves a nice little trail of grass that's not awful to look at.

Works great but the bolts that hold it together don't stay ...
Works great but the bolts that hold it together don't stay on well. Every use they come loose and go flying apart in the middle of mowing. We've since tied it together with zip ties and it works great. 5 stars if the bolts stayed together

Decent mower
The mower does the job but it's not good at all for edging. You will have to trim the edges around raised flower beds or trees if you I have a about a. .05 acre lawn and this is great because it's lightweight and can be carried through the house leaving me the ability to have both a front and back lawn at my row house, since I don't have a side yard. The biggest thing I don't like is that the highest you can set the blade height isn't that high. Otherwise does its jib.

Glad I replaced the gas mower with this eco-friendly model.
Lightweight and easy to use, even on a hill. Cuts the grass easily, even when somewhat tall. The only issue, and you'll have that with any mower of this type, is that it isn't much good at cutting things such as dandelions and other weeds. As my husband says these are meant for cutting a lawn while the gasoline mowers are meant for cutting yards(meaning anything). Also if you hitting a small stick or things such as pine cones the mower will stop but it's easy to get the debris out of the reel, just a slight annoyance if you have very many obstructions in your yard. It is a pleasure though to cut the grass and have no gasoline fumes interfering with the smell of freshly cut grass, no noise to give a headache or wake the neighbors and no vibration to get to your hands or arms.

More useless than a milk bucket under a bull!!
I just received this item and while it does look good the instructions to put it together I can only say that I wish my vacuum sucked as well the assembly instructions!! The pictures are not well illustrated and are very vague with the instructions on how to assemble it. My advice is please do not waste your money on such a useless piece of garbage!!
