The Best of Okinawan Martial Arts Weapons Series - Book One: SAI

At first glance, this book may look very simplistic with only a few of the "techniques" you're expecting, and only 2 Kata. And there is definitely lots in this book for the absolute beginner; you'll get a solid start.At second glance it seems far too complicated, the kata portrayed in picture and diagram form from multiple angles, rather than a simple embusen diagram. And there is a lot buried away in here for the advanced students to interpret.Give it a little time, seriously study it, and the brilliance shines through. There is nothing in here except solid advice, technique, history, and the author's very Okinawan humor and sensibilities. This is a great complimentary book to the author's training videos, or a good book on its own.

Good book to supplement live training helps to pique your memory and cool to look at when practicing

As a black belt student of Nishiuchi Shihan, I can tell you that his books are great reference guides. Perfect for going back to check on a detail or to remember a move sequence that you may have forgotten. Shihan is a great resource for all things Okinawa Kobudo. He was personally trained by Matayoshi Sensei and carry’s on his traditions.

Fantastic for the beginner. straight forward and easy to follow, text is to the point and photos are good.
