The California Gold Rush (A True Book: Westward Expansion)

I'm a teacher who works with high school girls who have learning disabilities and I'm always on the lookout for books that have high content and low vocabulary for students who have reading issues. One of my students must write a report on the subject of this book and is having a very difficult time with the books on her grade level that are in the school library. I'm helping her with all her notes by interpreting the vocabulary in the books she has taken out. I wanted her to be able to use the skills she's learning from me without having to deal with unfamiliar vocabulary in at least one book so that she could say that she did the notes for that source by herself and have a sense of accomplishment, so I purchased this book for her use, and it's perfect. The content is high, but she doesn't need the vocabulary constantly explained to her. She's delighted that she can do this on her own, without my help, just as I suspected would happen. I recommend this book for students who are younger as well, i.e. age 8 and up, as well as for students with intellectual disabilities and comprehension disabilities. For what it's worth, I'm a doctoral candidate in the field of special education and also hold degrees in psychology, speech pathology and audiology, and education, so I hope this will help to hold the recommendation seriously.

My daughter needed a book for a report she had to do in class. My daughter was in 5th grade so reports are new for her and this book was easy for her follow and allowed her to get some good information to put into her report.

Fun reading... I live in the Gold Country & this is perfect for visitors.
