Very good steel cut oats but too pricy for the quantitie

For what it is, it's probably great because the flavor is nice--the texture is a matter of opinion apparently.Maybe you have to have grown up eating heavily textured (tough) oatmeal, or perhaps have fallen in love with it in Ireland, but it's hard to love something you either have to partially prep the night before or wait 60+ minutes to cook (at the recommended 40 minutes it is chewy and watery) for extra firm, granular sort of oatmeal. Steel cut is a nice compromise between this and rolled if you want some extra texture.

If you soak it overnight, you don't have to cook it nearly as long as the directions say.If you boil-then-simmer for 5 mins the night before, then you can just reheat it in the morning.I read a review that said Flavahan's was by far the best-tasting steel cut oats. I agree that they are the best, but given the price difference between this & Bob's Red Mill, I'll stick with Bob's most of the time.

I stumbled upon this when looking at Scottish oats. I wish I would have looked closely at the pics and noticed the 40min cool time.Taste is great. Pain to cook. I'll need to figure out pressure cooker timing.

I bought these steel cut oats and the packaging arrived with a funny perfumy or pesticide smell. When I took the can out of the package the can had that smell too. Amazon gave me a full refund. When I opened the can the inner seal seemed to be intact and the oats didn't seem to have the same smell, but I tossed it all out of caution. The oats looked good. I cook my steel cut oats in the Instant Pot as it is quicker and doesn't need watching. I was hoping for a good product, not sure if I will try again. I gave 3 stars for the way the oats looked. I didn't cook them.

I fell in love with Flahavan’s steel cut oats twenty- odd years ago on a trip to Ireland. I use the overnight method, spring water and almond milk, and a splash of vanilla essence. In the morning I stir in dried fruit, or whiskey butter.
