Sharks (Usborne Beginners)

My 4y/o grandson couldn’t get enough of this book. I read it to him each night of my visit. He had the facts memorized in no time.

This is the most read book in the house right now. Great pictures (not too scary) for 3 1/2 year old that's fascinated with sharks. The book gives a nice description of many types of sharks and facts about them are nicely stated.

My daughter loves sharks. I have been looking for a book to give us some basic facts about sharks. This book fit the bill! It was very informative, but not in a way that was overwhelming for my daughter. My only disappointment was that I would love to see more photographs of sharks rather than drawings.

Usborne publishes some of the most comprehensive and beautiful non-fiction books for kids. We have an entire set of them, we give them as gifts and donate them to schools. There are really no better books for the money.

I bought this book and couple of others in this series for my 5 and a half year old son to read to me. He already had a good grasp of phonics and a fairly good sight vocabulary but unfortunately did not enjoy reading. Of the three or four books in this series that I purchased, he chose this one first. Since reading the very first page I have not had one single complaint about having to read. We have almost finished the book and his confidence has grown with each chapter. We have also had many discussions (initiated by him) about what he has read in the book. Needless to say I am very pleased with this purchase!I would recommend this book as a reader and as a book to be shared between an adult and a child. The chapters are short, a two page spread; the paragraphs are short (2 or 3 sentences at most) and most of the sentences aren't too long. They do not read like a typical scheme book, but more like a 'real' book. The illustrations and photographs are great and allow for lots of discussion even before reading a word of the text. I am hoping that the rest of the books are just as enjoyable!
