Essential item and easy to use
I calibrated this using new bottles of Sipsmiths Gin, then I use it constantly when distilling. It's reasonably accurate, and essential so you know the ABV of your distillate. Highly recommended.

Good value, quick and easy to use
It comes in a fairly sturdy box which is a useful size and shape for storage (an odd-ish colour, but whatever). It also feels like the unit is well protected in there with the foam packaging, but it's not a pain to pack/unpack the unit. The clip to my box came off - not sure if that's by design but it clips back on securely when the box is closed, just keep an eye on it when opened. The box contains everything listed, and all works fine. The unit itself is the star: has a nice weight to it, looks great and feels well-made. It's kinda fun to use if you're into sciencey stuff. The hinge to the plate, the adjustment screw, and adjusting the eyepiece all work fine and as expected, are robust, and pleasing to use.I measured my shop-bought vodka which says 37.5% on the bottle, it read: 35%. But I didn't spend a massive amount of time calibrating at the beginning, and played it fast-and-loose with allowing the sample to come to room temperature. So some of that small error might be me. It is very easy and clear to read though. It does take a tiny amount of practise, and a steady hand, to get the liquid to spread over the entirety of the plate, but I got there in a couple of attempts.Given the quality and accuracy, I would say it's a really good price. My one gripe is the instructions: they're not the clearest. If anything they make it more complicated than it is. However if you stick with it and use the equipment as you go it does all make sense in the end. Finally, there is a typo in my instructions, it says: "step 1, step 2, step 3, step 3"; rather than the more traditional: 1, 2, 3, 4. Not a massive issue but a little disappointing considering it's a precision instrument...In conclusion: a quality, good value instrument; easy to use, great for anyone who needs a quick and easy reading with decent accuracy.

Easy to use.
This is the second one I’ve bought as I mistakenly bought the first one with only the Brix scale. I soon got fed up of having to calculate the OG from the Brix so just bought another one. Works fine pre-fermentation but not so good afterwards. Use a hydrometer for measuring when fermentation finishes.

Doesn't do up to 80%
I've found this to be very useful *within certain bounds* of measurements - but I want to make it very clear that this does not, in fact, reach 80%. I've tested what I believe to be a 96% solution (after diluting very carefully and re-checking) and it shows as 65%. In fact, I cannot get a reading above 65% on this, despite it accurately being able to tell 55%, 40% and 20% readings. This may not be an issue for most people, and it can be resolved with carefully measured dilutions with water at a 1:1 level to bring very-strong solutions down, but it should be known that anything past the 60-percent-ish level seems to flatline there.

Simple to Use
Needed to know what the water content of my honey was prior to extraction. This tool made it very easy to determine - setup and instructions are very simple.
